Grand Rapids Hoops News Release

The Continental Basketball Association today announced their selections for the 2003 American Conference All-Star Team. The Grand Rapids HOOPS' Larry Ayuso, Jerald Honeycutt, and Eric Murdock were among the nominations for the 19th annual event, which will be held January 14th at the Sioux Falls Arena.

Ayuso (6-3, 200) makes his first All-Star appearance in his debut season in the CBA. Currently, the USC alum ranks among the top five in the league in scoring (22.0) and free throw shooting percentage (.897). He posted season and career-highs with 38 points on November 22 and December 15, both versus the conference-leading Rockford Lightning.

Honeycutt (6-9, 265) also makes his debut in the mid-season CBA classic. A 1997 Milwaukee Buck draft choice, Honeycutt currently ranks among the league leaders in scoring (23.2), rebounding (9.9) and blocks (1.2) per game. The former Tulane standout also garnered CBA American Conference Player of the Week honors after averaging 23.7 points, 12.6 rebounds, and 5.3 assists from December 8-14.

Murdock (6-3, 190) is in his first season in the CBA after spending nine seasons and 500 games in the NBA. The crafty veteran out of Providence currently leads the league in assists (8.0) and ranks second in steals (2.8). Originally drafted in 1991 by the Utah Jazz, Murdock also earned Player of the Week honors in the first week of December, after averaging 23.3 points and nine assists in three games.

The American Conference squad will be headed up by Rockford Lightning Head Coach Chris Daleo. The coaching duties were decided based on the team's record as of January 5, while all player nominations were based on the votes of CBA head coaches and beat writers. The remaining team members include the following: Ronnie Fields (Rockford), James Head (Great Lakes), Corey Hightower (Great Lakes), Oliver Miller (Gary), Bryant Notree (Gary), Livan Pyfrom (Rockford), and Albert White (Rockford).

National Conference nominations will be announced tomorrow, January 7.
