Three former Barons drafted to NHL

(Parma, OH)- The Cleveland Barons of the North American Hockey League and the Cleveland Barons Youth Hockey Organization congratulate former Barons: Tom Fritsche, Nathan Davis and Justin Mercier on being drafted today in the 2005 National Hockey League Entry Draft.

Fritsche was drafted in the 2nd round (47th overall) by the Colorado Avalanche. The Parma, OH native is currently entering his sophomore year at The Ohio State University. Fritsche is the second member of the family to be drafted into the NHL, his older brother Dan was drafted in the second round also (46th overall) by the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Fritsche joined the United States National Development Program following Barons, he joins ranks of Parma, OH natives that have been drafted into the NHL. They include, Brian Holzinger (Buffalo-1991), Dan Fritsche, (Columbus- 2003), and Ian Keserich (Colorado-2004).

Davis was drafted in the 4th round (113th overall) by the Chicago Blackhawks. The Rocky River, OH native is currently entering his sophomore season at Miami University. Davis also joined the United States National Development Program in Ann Arbor, MI after his years in the Barons youth organization.

Mercier was drafted in the 6th round (168th overall) by the Colorado Avalanche. The Erie, PA native is entering his sophomore season at Miami University. Mercier got his start in the Barons youth organization. Mercier finished his junior hockey career with the United States National Development Program

The Cleveland Barons Youth Hockey Organization, Northeast Ohio's premier youth hockey organization. Teams range from 1996 atoms to Tier 2 Jr. A. Teams compete in the Mid-West Elite Hockey League.
