Amarillo Bulls News Release
AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Bulls, proud members of the North American Hockey League, announced today (Wednesday) that three players have been named to the South Division roster for the NAHL Top Prospects Tournament set for the end of February in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Forward Cody Freeman, Defenseman Derek Hills and goaltender Steve Bolton will represent the Bulls on the South Division team. Freeman, a native of Toronto, Ontario Canada, leads the Bulls in scoring with 19 goals and 18 assists for 37 points. He has six game winning goals.
"Cody could have easily gone out the last time, and this time got recognized for his hard work, said Bulls Head Coach, Dennis Williams. "He has been one of our most consistent players up front. He's an 18 year old and will be able to showcase his talent in front of division one schools. No doubt he can do very well there."
Hills, a native of Campbell River, British Columbia, who attended the first top prospects tournament in December in Boston has six goals and 20 assists for 26 points. He has a plus-minus rating of plus 13 and has 10 power play assists.
"Not a lot of guys get to repeat and go for a second time and for Hills to do so is quite an accomplishment," Williams commented. "There are many first time guys there and to have Tony (Curtale) and Scott Langer give him another shot is deservingly so. I hope he does very well there after learning the highs and lows of the first one."
Goaltender Steve Bolton has a 2-1 record with a 2.73 Goals Against Average and a save percentage of .920.
"I think great honor for Steve. He's been solid in the games that he has played in for us," Williams added. "He's a 20 year-old and a last kick opportunity to get division one schools interested. He deserves the opportunity to go up there and showcase his skills."
At the event, four teams - Team Central, Team North, Team South and Team West - will play a three-game round robin. Each team consists of a 20-man roster, with minor player crossover amongst the four teams. All NAHL players were eligible for selection, and the number of players represented by each NAHL team is based on each team's winning percentage within their division as of Jan. 17.
Topeka RoadRunners Head Coach Scott Langer and Tony Curtale of the Texas Tornado will be behind the bench of the South Division.
The Amarillo Bulls close out a five game home stand on Thursday night when they host the New Mexico Mustangs at 7 pm. It's Buy One-Get One Free for members of the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce, and there will be a social from 5:30 pm until puck drop in The Corral. Season Ticket holders can also redeem unused tickets for the game.
