Winston-Salem Dash News Release
Winston-Salem, NC - Myrtle Beach got a strong outing from Jacob Thompson and smacked four home runs to bury Winston-Salem 10-1 on Friday night at Wake Forest Baseball Park. Thompson (4-2) was solid in six strong innings to earn his second straight win over Winston-Salem. He held the Dash to one run on three hits with five strikeouts to help the Pelicans claim the opener of this three-game series.
The Pelicans flew out to a quick lead as C.J. Lee deposited the first pitch of the game from Jacob Rasner over the left field wall for a solo home run. The early round-tripper would be a sign of things to come for Dash hurlers, who surrendered 17 hits for the game.
Myrtle Beach added another run in the first on an RBI ground out by Donell Linares. An inning later, Chad Lundahl delivered a run-scoring single to give the Pelicans a 3-0 lead.
Myrtle Beach turned to the long ball again in the third inning as Gerry Rodriguez hit a solo shot to push their lead to four. A Dash error and a wild pitch accompanied by back-to-back RBI singles from Michael Fisher and Linares in the top of the sixth inning helped extend the Pelicans advantage to 7-0.
The Dash finally put a run on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning courtesy of an RBI single by third baseman Brent Morel, but Myrtle Beach answered right back in the next frame as Jesus Sucre launched a solo home run off Tyson Corley.
Cody Johnson bashed a two run shot off Nate Jones, his league-leading 25th home run of the season in the eighth inning to give Myrtle Beach a 10-1 lead.
Rasner (3-2) worked 5.1 innings and gave up six runs on seven hits with four walks and suffered his second consecutive loss to Myrtle Beach.
Winston-Salem and Myrtle Beach continue this three-game series on Saturday night at Wake Forest Baseball Park. The Dash will send RHP Johnnie Lowe (7-4, 4.31) to the mound, while the Pelicans are expected to start RHP Erik Cordier (4-4, 3.59). The first pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
All tickets for Saturday's contest against the Pelicans are only $5 in advance and include a FREE Dash hat. Both games are scheduled for 7 p.m. Single-game tickets can be purchased online at www.wsdash.com or by calling the Dash office at (336) 714-2287.
