Thomasville's Edwards Named 2011 CPL Broadcaster of the Year

August 18, 2011 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain) News Release

HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C. - The Coastal Plain League announced today that Thomasville HiToms WebPass broadcaster Chris Edwards has been named the 2011 CPL Broadcaster of the Year.

All 15 CPL WebPass broadcasters did a great job in 2011, but in the end Edwards was selected after team owners, general mangers, league officials, fellow WebPass broadcasters and fans voted. Edwards was noted for having very insightful, baseball-educated broadcasts that featured player and coach interviews, as well as offering an objective broadcast that was enjoyable for both home and road audiences to listen to.

Here's just a sampling of what some of the fans had to say about Edwards' broadcasts:

"Chris was really invested in the HiToms success and was very passionate about their play throughout the season. He always had great interviews of the players and other items of interest to play during breaks."

"Chris worked very hard to incorporate the listeners into his broadcast...responding to Twitter posts during the game to all the parents and fans listening in."

"Following the HiToms on the road, I noticed that Chris would participate and add color commentary from time-to-time, which added a good balance to those broadcasts. He was always objective, which is key."

Edwards has spent five years as the "Voice of the Garner Trojans", calling football, basketball and baseball games for Garner (N.C.) Magnet High School. He spent the 2010 summer working with the Carolina Mudcats Radio Network, providing color analysis and play-by-play for the Mudcats, the Double-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds.

Enrolled at the East Carolina University, Edwards is currently working to complete his degree in Communications.
