Colorado 14ers News Release

DENVER - Feb. 5, 2008 - The Colorado 14ers ended a three game slide, beating the Utah Flash 95-93 in Broomfield Tuesday night. With the victory Colorado improves to 15-12 on the season, while Utah falls to 15-15 on the year with the loss.

In a back-and-forth game that saw 14 lead changes, 14ers guard Billy Thomas made the play of the night. With 20 seconds remaining in a tie game, Thomas picked off a pass from Kevin Kruger and fed Kaniel Dickens for a fast-break finger roll to give Colorado a 95-93 lead with 17.7 seconds to play. Utah's last second jumper from Curtis Stinson fell short from 14 feet away giving Colorado the win.

"We finally figured it out. We had good offensive and defensive possessions down the stretch when we needed them," said 14ers Head Coach Joe Wolf. "It was an important win for us because we had really been struggling."

Utah jumped out to an early lead and went up by as many as 13 points in the first half. D-League leading scorer Morris Almond scored 15 of his game-high 31 points in the first quarter, and helped the Flash to a 55-50 halftime lead.

Colorado countered by outscoring Utah 24-22 in the third quarter behind nine points from rookie Justin Cage in the period. The 14ers defense then held Utah to just 16 fourth quarter points to hang on for the win.

Dickens and Eddie Gill led the way for Colorado with 17 points apiece. Elton Brown posted his league leading 18th double-double of the season with 15 points and 11 rebounds in the win.

In addition to Almond's 31 points, Brian Jackson added 10 points and nine rebounds for the Flash. James Lang and Lamar Rice also scored 10 each for Utah in the loss.

The Flash return home Friday to host the Anaheim Arsenal. The 14ers visit the Fort Wayne Mad Ants on Thursday night.
