Odessa Jackalopes News Release
Not to put any undue pressure on his latest signing, but Jackalopes Head Coach & Director of Hockey Operations, Don McKee, thinks MATT PRICE will be a fan favorite...and a great addition...for the Jacks this season.
Price signed with the Jackalopes following a 4-year career at Acadia University (Wolfville, Nova Scotia) where he served as team captain in his senior season. The Ontario native also has a solid background in Juniors, having spent four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League.
McKee says Jacks fans will like a three-word description of Price's style, saying the newest Jackalopes plays a "very physical game."
"We know we have to be a grittier club this season," McKee said. "Matt Price will help us greatly in that area. He's the kind of player our fans will take to right away."
Price, at 6-1 and 225 pounds, was voted the "hardest hitter" in the Ontario Hockey League, and totaled 145 (53 goals + 92 assists) in 238 games in the OHL.
"His numbers at Acadia are a bit misleading," McKee commented. "He was limited by a minor injury last season, so his numbers weren't indicative of his capabilities. His role was more leadership than scoring. If you look at his sophomore year (11 points and 82 PIM in 25 games) you get a better idea of his contributions at Acadia."
The Jackalopes now have an "Acadia Connection," having recently signed Acadia goaltender Mark Cairns.
"Matt brings a combination of size, toughness, talent and leadership to our hockey club," McKee said. "That's a combination that has 'Jacks Hockey' written all over it. We're excited to get him into camp."
