Third-Period Goal Launches U.S. Nat'l Under-17 Team Past Alpena, 2-1

ALPENA, Mich. - Kevin Lynch's (Grosse Pointe, Mich.) goal at the 10:12 mark of the third period lifted the U.S. Nat'l Under-17 Team to a 2-1 victory over the Alpena IceDiggers at Northern Lights Arena Friday night. Goalkeeper Nick Maricic (Alta Loma, Calif.) pushed aside 34 of the 35 shots he faced for Team USA.

The U.S. Nat'l Under-17 Team jumped out to a 1-0 lead at 9:53 of the first period as Cam Fowler (Farmington Hills, Mich.) netted his second goal of the season, unassisted.

Alpena evened the score at 1-1 at the 7:25 mark of the second stanza, thanks to a power-play marker from Jimmy McKusker.

Lynch sealed the game for Team USA with his 16th marker of the year, thanks to assists from Jerry D'Amigo (Binghamton, N.Y.) and Bjorn Krupp (Atlanta, Ga.).

Team USA held off the IceDiggers for the remainder of the contest, pushing its season record to 29-26-2.

Nick Graves stopped 27 of the 29 shots he saw for Alpena in the loss.

The U.S. Nat'l Under-17 Team concludes its weekend series with the IceDiggers Saturday night at Northern Lights Arena. Puck drop is slated for 7 p.m. EST.

Notes: Nick Maricic improved to 2-1 in his fourth appearance with the U.S. Nat'l Under-17 Team this year ... Kevin Lynch (one goal) extended his season point total to 21 (16-5) ... Cam Fowler (one goal) now has 12 points (2-10) on the year ... Jerry D'Amigo recorded his 13th assist and 22nd point of the 2007-08 campaign ... Bjorn Krupp (one assist) compiled his fifth point of the year.
