Moncton Wildcats News Release
Connor Richard's goal with 1:23 remaining in the third period turned into the game-winner and capped a Wildcats' comeback in a 5-3 victory over the Acadie-Bathurst Titan, Wednesday at Avenir Centre.
Moncton's record in the all-New Brunswick round-robin playoff tournament improves to 2-2. The Titan fall to 2-2.
Jacob Hudson and Nick Pavan had a goal and an assist each while Owen Stammer and Mathis Cloutier also scored.
Goalie Dakota Lund-Cornish turned aside 37 shots in the win.
Acadie-Bathurst led 1-0 after twenty minutes thanks to a goal late in the first period.
Stammer tied the game with five minutes left in the second.
The rookie forward carried the puck on the left wing side, cut into the middle and ripped a wrist shot over the blocker of Titan goalie Jan Bednar.
Pavan gave Moncton a 2-1 lead three minutes later, rifling home a wrister from the right circle after a Gabriel Bernier faceoff win.
The visitors tied the game nearly two minutes into the third and took a 3-2 lead with a power play strike just past the nine-minute mark.
But Moncton evened the score again with 99 seconds remaining in regulation time.
Lund-Cornish had gone to the bench for an extra skater with Hudson replacing him. A shot from the left point was stopped and the puck eventually found Hudson, who lifted a shot past a sprawling Bednar from the right side of the crease.
Richard's game-winner came just 16 seconds later.
Hudson carried the puck into the Acadie-Bathurst zone on the right wing and fed a pass into the middle to Richard who whistled a heavy wrist shot inside the right post.
Cloutier made it a 5-3 final score with an empty-net goal with 5.8 seconds remaining.
