Rochester RazorSharks News Release
This is a critically important week for the Rochester RazorSharks and their late season run for a Premier Basketball League playoff berth. Rochester (5-7) hosts Saint John (6-5) on Thursday night at the Blue Cross Arena.
The top four in the seven team PBL, qualify for postseason play. Right now the Mill Rats hold onto the last of those four positions. Rochester is fifth, trailing Saint John (along with Halifax at 7-5) by two games in the loss column. A defeat Thursday leaves the Sharks three games behind the Rats with just seven to play. A Rochester victory Thursday puts the team right back into the thick of things.
Saint John has been the surprise of the league so far. Just 6-14 last season when they played in Manchester, NH, the Rats have won four of their last five and five of seven. They defeated second place Quebec (8-4) 104-97 on the road Sunday. Saint John will be tested down the stretch with six of its final eight games against teams currently in the playoff picture.
Halifax likewise, plays seven of its last eight games against playoff teams including the completion of a suspended game against Quebec, that will be picked up tied 81-81 heading into overtime. The Rainmen have three head to head against the Mill Rats.
Rochester has won three of its first four games in a seven game home stand. The RazorSharks breezed past last place Dayton Saturday. Their only loss came in overtime to 12-1 Lawton-Fort Sill last week.
After Thursday night's game, Rochester hosts LFS again on Sunday and completes the BCA run of games against Kentucky a week from Thursday. Four of Rochester's last five games are on the road. The team leaves town Saturday March 12th and stays on the road for an entire week for games at Kentucky, Dayton and Lawton.
