The Spirit Fall to the Knights Just Before the Playoffs

The Saginaw Spirit welcomed over 5600 fans as they took on the London Knights for the last game of the regular season on Saturday night. The Spirit fell to the Knights 3 - 2 in overtime.

Both Western Conference teams came out strong in the opening period; however neither team was able to score. Saginaw's goaltender, and Detroit Red Wings prospect, Jake Paterson made 11 saves, and London's goaltender, and Philadelphia Flyers prospect, Anthony Stolarz made 8 saves. The frame ended scoreless.

The second period opened up with a London goal, on the power play, which came off Bo Horvat's stick, his 33rd of the season, assisted by Alex Broadhurst and Chris Tierney. The frame ended Knights 1 - Spirit 0.

The Spirit and the Knights put up a solid effort in the third and Terry Trafford was able to add a nice finishing goal on the power play to tie up the game, with the assists coming from Jake Ringuette and Jeremiah Addison. The Knights answered with a goal by San Jose Sharks prospect, Chris Tierney, his 18th of the season, assisted by Ryan Rupert and Max Domi. Jake Ringuette fired back to score, his 2nd of the season, with less than 20 seconds left in the period, assisted by Eric Locke.

The teams headed into overtime, where the Knights scored the game winning goal on the power play from Chicago Blackhawks prospect, Alex Broadhurst, his 23rd of the season, assisted by Pittsburgh Penguins prospect, Olli Maatta and Max Domi. The game ended London 3 - Saginaw 2, with the shots on goal London 33 - Saginaw 24.
