Ottawa SkyHawks News Release

The Ottawa SkyHawks spent their Friday evening going toe to toe with the Brampton A's at the Powerade Center in their first of two road games this weekend. Brampton secured another win (89-99) in the SkyHawks and A's series and were now within one, 4-3 for Ottawa.

The SkyHawks had a strong bucket for bucket first quarter where the A's also stepped it up to finish the first with a tie of 23-23. The second quarter was a little sluggish for the SkyHawks having been outscored 18-21 going into the second half of the game at 41-44.

Ottawa had a great start to the third quarter as they managed to up the A's meanwhile keeping them from sinking shots. However, it wasn't long before the A's caught up and shortly after turned it into a point for point game in the last five minutes of the third. With 1:55 left in the third, Brampton broke off with a succession of buckets pushing Ottawa back at 59-66.

Third quarter ended with Ottawa trailing by 7 and the score sitting at 61-68. Tirrell Baines charged the SkyHawks with 20 points and 7 rebounds going into the fourth and final quarter of the game. Struggling to close the point gap in the final quarter,  Ottawa tied Brampton as Ryan Anderson sank a 3-pointer leaving the scoreboard at 83-83. One foul and 3 points later, Ottawa sat at 86 points as Brampton went on a 6 point run leaving them at 92 points.

Ottawa pushed for the win but came back empty handed in the end as Brampton served up at 10 point win with a score of 89-99.

Still leading at the end of the game was Tirrell Baines along with Ryan Anderson who both concluded the evening with 20 points each.

Friday night's star Tirrell Baines said "We sent them to the free throw lines too many times. It was a hard fought and we were only a few stops away from the win" noting how the team's collective fouls might've been their Achilles heel Friday night.

Leading rebounder for the SkyHawks Eric Kibi added " it was a tough low scoring game...we needed a few more stops down the stretch and have to learn from this one and get better."

The SkyHawks continue their journey on the road Saturday night as they square off with the Windsor Express at the WFCU center at 7:00 pm.
