The Orangeville A's Top Niagara River Lions, 105-88 and Extend Win

ORANGEVILLE, ON - The Orangeville A's started off sloppy with 5 turnovers in the first quarter. Niagara River Lions jumped all over the opportunity and grabbed an early 16-9 lead forcing the A's to take a timeout at 5:49. This was exactly what they needed as the A's bounced back and found their stroke scoring off 8 Lions' turnovers. Rahlir Hollis-Jefferson had 8 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists while Alex Johnson had 6 points and 4 assists. Nick Wiggins scored a basket with 2 seconds on the clock to give the A's a 20-18 lead after 1.

The A's turned it up in the 2nd quarter growing their lead to 21 points, 57-36. Rick Bodiford got hot, scoring 9 of his 17 points in the frame (2-4 from three). The A's defensive pressure continued and they were able to force 8 more turnovers, bringing the River Lions total to 16 for the first half. Slim Magee was able to free himself for easy baskets, shooting 5-7 in the quarter for 10 points. Alex Johnson continued to facilitate racking up 8 assists in the first half. A well-rounded team effort allowed Orangeville to head into halftime with a 57-36 lead. Four A's players scored in double figures.

The Niagara River Lions would not go away in the third quarter and capitalized off of the A's missed shots and unforced errors. The Lions were able to grind away at the A's lead and found themselves within 7 points at the 7:23 mark. The A's responded and held their ground behind continued solid play from Rahlir (17 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists through 3 quarters) and Alex Johnson who notched a double-double through three with 12 points, 10 assists and 6 rebounds. Heading into the fourth the A's were up 78-65.

Orangeville did not take their foot off the pedal in the final frame. Player of the Game Rahlir Hollis-Jefferson put in 24 points on an outstanding 11-15 FG. He also added 8 assists and 6 rebounds. A's floor general Alex Johnson controlled the tempo and added a double-double of 17 points and 11 assists. Rick Bodiford also had a solid game with 17 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 assists of his own. The A's scored a majority of their points in the paint, scoring 60 versus the Lions' 38. The final score for this game was 105 - 88 as the A's extend their winning streak to three. The A's sit at 2nd in the Central Division with a record of 7 wins and 6 losses.
