Vermont Mountaineers rack up season-high 17 runs to headline Thursday night's five-game lineup!

Vermont Mountaineers 17 - Danbury Westerners 6

W - Brendan McFall 4-0 (Tufts): 2.0 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K

L - Julian Tonghini 0-2 (Boston): 2.1 IP, 8 H, 8 ER, 3 BB, 2 K

Rogers Park in Danbury, Conn - The Vermont Mountaineers (14-1) put in their third double-digit explosion against the Danbury Westerners (7-7) in a 17-6 victory.

Both sides scored three runs in the second inning for a 3-3 score to start the game. The Mountaineers quickly turned the tide against Danbury as they put up an additional six runs to push ahead to 9-3 after three-innings. The game got quieter as the Westerners held the Mountaineers to just one hit from the fifth to eighth-inning to hold the score to 10-3 and Danbury made the best of it as they punched in another three scores to cut the lead to 10-6. Vermont didn't allow Danbury to get any closer as they pulled away with their highest scoring frame with a 7-run effort to end the game 17-6.

Danbury's left fielder Harrison Feinberg (Southern California) and shortstop Nicholas Romano (Georgia Tech) highlighted the offense as they got to home plate twice throughout the night, while catcher Joseph Skarad (Sacred Heart) recorded 2 RBI.

For Vermont, right fielder Tom Ruscitti (Fairleigh Dickinson) and center fielder Evan Fox (Stony Brook) tied for the most runs on the team with three each as third baseman Ben Williamson (William and Mary) led with 4 RBI. The pitching committee was effective, totaling 14 strikeouts and only allowing 6 hits and McFall has recorded a league-high 4 wins on the season.

The Mountaineers take their dominant gameplay to face the second-best Bristol Blues (12-3) for a 6:30 pm matchup while the Westerners try to get on the positive side of .500 as they take on Martha's Vineyard Sharks (7-8) at 7:05 pm.

Dodd Stadium in Norwich, CT - The Mystic Schooners (6-5) shut out the Martha's Vineyard Sharks (7-8) in a Thursday afternoon affair.

Jonathan Gonzalez induced weak contact and controlled the strike zone throughout the game, providing the Schooners seven scoreless innings. He handed the ball to Jimmy Chatfield (Yale), who struck out the side, and Connor Harris (George Washington), who delivered a scoreless ninth inning.

The first run of the game came from a Troy McGirt (Wake Forest) RBI groundout after Kevin Ferrer (Connecticut) and Logan Allen (Bryant) led the second inning off with singles and advanced to second and third on a passed ball. In the next inning, Eddie Micheletti (George Washington) and Stanton Leuthner scored on a Ferrer single up the middle. The final run of the game came with runners on the corners and two outs in the bottom of the sixth. After the ball bounced in the dirt and ricocheted to the right, Allen stormed into home plate to make it 4-0.

The Schooners' next game will be today at 6 p.m. against the Upper Valley Nighthawks. The Sharks will be back at home today at 7:05 p.m. to face the Danbury Westerners.

Valley Blue Sox 5 - Bristol Blues 3

W - Brian Strange 2-1 (Mineral Area): 3.0 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 5 K

L - Carson Kohls 2-2 (Penn State): 2.0 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 1 K

S - Jacob Terwilliger 1 (Bucknell): 2.0 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 4 K

Muzzey Field in Bristol, Conn - The Valley Blue Sox (8-6) took down the West Division leader and rival, Bristol Blues (12-3) in a 5-3 win.

The Blue Sox kicked off the scoring in the top of the second when Charlie Ludwick, Anthony Sherwin, and Damaurys Rodiguez loaded the bases with three straight walks and led to a 2-0 score with runs by Ludwick and Sherwin.

Valley continued their efforts in the fourth and fifth after Jack Krause hit a dinger in the first at-bat of the fourth inning and Sam Franco got on base with a triple in the top of the fifth and got home with a single from Robert Mattei to expand the lead to 4-0.

The Blues answered back immediately after the fifth-inning strike by the Blue Sox. Griffin Arnone hit a home run of his own that put Bristol on the board, 4-1. In the seventh, the Blues inched closer with a run by AJ Gaich following a triple to cut the deficit to just 4-2. The teams exchanged single runs to give Valley the 5-3 victory.

The Blue Sox will try to carry the momentum into a home game against the Sanford Mainers (6-9) at 7:05pm. The Blues look to get back on track as they take on the league's leader Vermont Mountaineers (14-1) at home at 6:30pm.

Ocean State Waves 6 - Keene Swamp Bats 4

W - Parker Bard 2-1 (Dayton): 2.0 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K

L - Robert Wegielnik 0-1 (Florida Atlantic): 1.0 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 0 K

Alumni Field, Keene, N.H. - The Ocean State Waves (6-9) defeated the Keene Swamp Bats (7-7) in extra innings Thursday night at Alumni Field.

In the top of the tenth inning, Ocean State's Creek Robertson (Southern Mississippi) was placed on second base per the international tie-breaker rule, setting up Peter Ciuffreda (Lafayette College) who tripled to right field, later scoring on a wild pitch to give his team a two-run advantage heading into the bottom of the tenth.

Donovan Cash (Kennesaw) scored first for Ocean State with a solo home run to lead off the fourth but the Swamp Bats answered in the bottom of the inning, scoring two runs with RBIs coming from a double by Jackson Ross (Florida Atlantic) and a single from Brandon Anderson (Louisville).

Both teams scored again in the fifth, with the Waves scoring one run on a sacrifice fly from Ciuffreda while Tony Santa Maria (Rutgers) hit a solo shot for the Swampbats followed by back-to-back doubles from Dan Covino (Central Connecticut) and Garrett Rice (Missouri Columbia), driving in yet another run to give Keene a 4-2 lead. A home run by Ocean State's Khyree Miller (Winthrop) in the top of the eighth inning tied up the score and would eventually send the game to extra innings.

Both teams return to play on Friday, June 24th, with the Waves hitting the road to take on the North Adams SteepleCats at 5:00 p.m. while the Swamp Bats play on the road against the Newport Gulls starting at 6:35 p.m.

Sanford Mainers 3 - North Shore Navigators 1

W - Sonny Fauci 1-1 (St. Johns): 7.0 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 14 K

L - Graham Jeffries 0-3 (Salve Regina): 5.0 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 6 K

Goodall Park, Sanford, Maine - An outstanding pitching performance allowed the Sanford Mainers (6-9) to defeat the North Shore Navigators (3-12) Thursday night at Goodall Park.

Fauci paved the way for the Mainers, collecting 14 strikeouts through seven innings of play while allowing zero runs to score to put his team in an advantageous position. Sanford wasted no time, getting ahead of the Navigators in the first inning when an error by the North Shore defense allowed Adam Dapkewicz (Georgetown), who had reached earlier on a single, to score. The Mainers would add to their lead in the bottom of the fourth inning when Jake Rainess (Maine Orono) hit a solo shot to put his team up 2-0.

The Navigators got one back in the top of the eighth when Jake Gustin (Bryant) doubled to score a run and cut the lead to 2-1. Ultimately, the Mainers would maintain the advantage, adding to their lead in the bottom of the eighth off an RBI by Devan Bade (Binghamton) who put the ball in play, allowing pinch-runner Kevin Skagerlind (UMass Amherst) to score from third.

Both teams return to play on Friday, June 24th, with the Navigators hosting the Winnipesaukee Muskrats at 6:35 p.m. while the Mainers play on the road against the Valley Blue Sox starting at 7:05 p.m.
