Cardines Field in Newport, R.I. - The Newport Gulls (16-8) extended their win streak to eight games in a doubleheader sweep over the Upper Valley Nighthawks (12-12). The Gulls won the first game 4-1 and the second game 3-2.

Game One: Newport Gulls 4 - Upper Valley Nighthawks 1

S - Cole Stasio 1 (Baylor): 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K

With Kevin Seitter continuing his dominant summer, Newport did not need too much scoring to win the first game of the doubleheader. The second inning was when they pounced on an opportunity. Spenser Smith (Northeastern) reached on a walk with one out, then Jacob Burley (Brown) was hit by a pitch. Trent Farquhar (Michigan State) singled to load the bases, then Alec Makarewicz (East Carolina) was hit by a pitch to drive in the first run of the game. Colton Ledbetter (Samford) followed that up with a sacrifice fly.

Seitter shut the Nighthawks out for his first five innings of work. In the sixth, Nicholas Wang (Boston College) drove Max Grant (Canisius) in on a sacrifice fly to cut Newport's lead in half. However, the Gulls responded with a 2-run home run from Makarewicz to make it 4-1. Newport called on Cole Stasio to close it out, and he threw a perfect inning with two strikeouts.

Game Two: Newport Gulls 3 - Upper Valley Nighthawks 2

W - Logan Mcguire 3-1 (Georgia Tech): 5.0 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 7 K

S - Seamus Barrett 1 (Louisville): 2.0 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 4 K

With the innings winding down in the second 7-inning matchup of the day and the Gulls down 2-0, they needed to put some runs on the board. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Samuel Kulasingam (Air Force) and Alec Makarewicz led the frame off with a pair of singles. Next, Colton Ledbetter hit an RBI double to cut Upper Valley's lead in half. Kolton Freeman (Dartmouth) hit an RBI groundout to tie the game up. With two outs, Slate Alford (Mississippi State) hit an RBI double to put Newport ahead 3-2.

After Newport's Logan Mcguire threw five quality innings, Seamus Barrett came in and threw two scoreless innings to earn the save.

Upper Valley's runs were scored on a Ryan Ignoffo (Eastern Illinois) RBI double and a Max Grant RBI single.

The Gulls will look to extend their streak to nine games today on the road against the Bristol Blues at 6:30 p.m. The Nighthawks will look to get back on track today in a home divisional matchup against the Sanford Mainers at 6 p.m.

The Swamp Bats pulled away again in the fifth on a triple by Santa Maria, who came around to score on a wild pitch. It was a 6-3 Keene game, and Sanford gave it one last effort as they scored in the seventh on a groundout by McDaniel. From there, the Swamp Bats scored three in the eighth on a single from Tyler McKenzie (Vanderbilt), a sac fly from Dan Covino (Central Connecticut State) and a double from Ross. Keene has now scored 19 runs over its last two games.

Muzzy Field in Bristol, CT - The Bristol Blues (18-6) walked off the Danbury Westerners (12-13) in a dramatic extra innings showdown.

Hank Thomas (Ohio State) got things started for the Westerners on an RBI groundout in the top of the fourth. Bristol responded in the bottom of the fifth with a Tyler Fote (Central Connecticut State) sac fly to tie the game at one. In the seventh inning, the Westerners re-took the lead on a sac fly of its own by Danniel Rivera (Southern New Hampshire).

Bristol fought back in the bottom of the inning with two runs to take its first lead of the game. The runs came on an RBI double from Chaz Myers (Pacific) and an RBI single from Fote. In the top of the tenth, Thomas put the Westerners back on top with an RBI single. With Bristol now trailing with three outs to go, Ryan Wilson (Davidson) walked and stole second to set up Jay Harry (Penn State) with the go ahead run in scoring position. Harry knocked a double down the right field line to score both runners and win the game in a dramatic back and forth affair.

The Blues will remain at Muzzy Field to take on the Newport Gulls on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. The Westerners will head to Holyoke to take on the Valley Blue Sox on Thursday at 6:35 p.m.

Ocean State Waves 5 - North Shore Navigators 1

S - Brooks Ey 0-1 (Virginia Commonwealth): 2.0 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 3 K

Fraser Field, Lynn, Mass. - A late-game home run by Jake Studley (UCONN) put the Ocean State Waves (11-15) on top and helped earn the win against the North Shore Navigators (6-18) at Fraser Field on Wednesday night.

Ocean State opened up scoring in the top of the sixth when Creek Robertson (Southern Mississippi) led off the inning with a double to right field, advancing to third on the play, setting up Chase Meggers (Oregon) whose ground ball to second base got the job done, scoring a run to give the Waves a 1-0 lead.

The Navigators struck back in the bottom of the seventh, loading the bases with back-to-back singles by Stan DeMartinis III (Bryant) and Brady O'Brien (Colby) and a walk from Jake McElroy (Holy Cross). Max Viera (Northeastern) singled on the ensuing at-bat to score a run and tie the game up at 1-1.

Unfortunately for the Navs, Studley's solo shot in the eighth put Ocean State back on top with a lead they wouldn't give up as Daniel Baruch and Alex Ramirez (URI) both singled in the ninth, driving in three additional runs.

The Ocean State Waves return to play on Thursday, July 7th, hosting the Winnipesaukee Muskrats, first pitch at 6:30 p.m. while the Navigators enjoy a day off before hosting the Danbury Westerners on Friday, July 8th, starting at 6:35 p.m.

Martha's Vineyard Sharks 6 - North Adams Steeplecats 5 (11 innings)

W - Camron Hill 4-0 (Georgia Tech): 4 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 5 K

L - Kaleb Sophy 0-5 (Shippensburg): 2.1 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 2 K

Vineyard Baseball Park in Oak Bluffs, Mass - Martha's Vineyard Sharks (13-10) took a walk-off 6-5 win against the North Adams Steeplecats (5-19).

The Sharks got on the board first in the bottom of the second when shortstop Henry Wallen (Undecided) hit a double then advanced to third on a wild pitch which was followed by a center fielder Logan Chambers (Tennessee) walk to get Wallen home for the 1-0 lead. The Steeplecats responded in the fourth inning with two runs of their own when right fielder Kyle Hannon (Penn State) smacked a single out to bring shortstop Tommy DiTullio (Bryant) in and then got home himself after stealing two bases and a single by second baseman Vincent Bianchina (Northwestern) to get ahead, 2-1.

The Steeplecats moved further ahead in the seventh with a single hit by catcher Carson Dunkel (Albany) to get Bianchina a run himself, but the Sharks put together a rally in the ninth inning where they punched in the equalizing runs with hits by Chambers and left fielder Aiden Tierney (Mt. St Mary's) to tie it up 3-3.

The Steeplecats took the lead in the eleventh for a 5-3 score following a double by pinch hitter Cedric Rose (Massachusetts Lowell) where he stole third and home for the run and a single RBI by designated hitter Joaquin Monque (South Florida). The Sharks then stole the show as they walked off with the win when right fielder Harrison Brown (Austin Peay State) helped first baseman Ryan Nicholson (Cincinnati) home with a single, then Wallen went big to shut down North Adams by slamming a homer for two runs to take the win, 6-5.

Both pitching committees were efficient in strikeouts as the Steeplecats had 10 while the Sharks had 12. Wallen was impressive at the plate as he was 2-for-4 with 2 RBI and a home run along with two runs. Steeplecats' infielder Ryan Galanie (Wofford) was dangerous as a runner as he stole six bases and tacked on a run.

The Sharks will stay home to host the Mystic Schooners (12-10) in a Coastal Division showdown tomorrow at 7:05pm as the Steeplecats regroup to prepare for a matchup against the Sanford Mainers (10-14) on Friday July 8, at 6:30pm.
