The Fire will hold an open tryout for linemen and fullback/linebackers on this Saturday morning. The tryout will take place at Old Cardinal Stadium and the cost is $40. Registration will begin at 8:00 A.M. and the tryout will start at 9:30 A.M.

FIRE ADDS TWO FOR 2005 SEASON... The Fire has recently been assigned their first two players for the 2005 season by the af2 league office. Brian Kmitta, 6'3 315, is a rookie OL/DL from Anderson University. Kmitta played in the Aztec Bowl, the Division III all-star game, in 2002 and 2003 and was a two-time D-III All-American. Rob Green, 6'1 200, is a third year defensive specialist out of the University of Massachusetts. Green played in 14 games with the Cincinnati Swarm in 2003 recorded 66 tackles, five interceptions and 24 pass deflections. In 2004 Green saw action in 14 games with the Albany Conquest racking up 101 tackles, four interceptions and 24 pass deflections.

MOVIN' ON UP... Fire WR/LB Anthony Payton recently signed a contract to join the Las Vegas Gladiators in the AFL. This will be Payton's third stint in the AFL and his second with the Gladiators. Payton is the fourth player from the 2004 team to sign an AFL contract joining Jason Ferguson (Dallas Desperados), Tremain Mack (San Jose Sabercats) and Jabir Walker (Colorado Crush).

STATE CHAMPIONSHIP WEEKEND... The KHSAA state football championships will be held this weekend in Louisville and once again the Fire has ties to the AAAA championship game. Fire owner Will Wolford and the St. X Tigers will take on Scott County Saturday at 3:30 at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium. The other state title games will feature Beechwood against Danville in a rematch of last season Class A title game on Friday at Noon. The Class-AA championship will match Belfry, last season's AA runner-up, against Owensboro Catholic at 3:30 on Friday. The Saturday session will kick-off with another rematch of last seasons Class-AAA title game as five-time defending champion Boyle County faces Ft. Thomas Highlands at Noon.
