Fort Collins, CO - Although the Colorado Ice had some major defensive stops they were unable to answer back at key opportunities, giving this one to the Sioux Falls Storm 30-41 in the home opener.
The fast paced first half involved three Colorado Ice touchdowns from Jasonus Tillery (88) and two by Kyle Kaiser (8) and a field goal. The Storm answered back despite several key redzone stops by the Ice.
Joe Thornton (1) was a key defensive player in this game including a fourth down, redzone ball swap and applied major pressure on Storm's quarterback Chris Dixon (2).
What failed the Ice was their inability to convert redzone and third down opportunities. They were 4/12 on third downs and 0/2 in redzone chances.
In the fourth quarter the Ice gained momentum with a touchdown by Tillery (88) in the beginning of the quarter. In the Storm's following possession Thornton (1) was almost able get a sack on Dixon (2) however a lucky pass resulted in a touchdown by the Storm leaving the score 30-41. In the last minute of the game defensive back Michael Eby (19) was able to recover a fumble however time was not in the favor of the Ice.
The Colorado Ice will face the Wyoming Cavalry Saturday, March 8th at the Budweiser Event Center at 12pm.
