The Cats Walk Their Way to Victory in the Eighth

May 24, 2014 - United League Baseball (ULB)
Fort Worth Cats News Release

The Fort Worth Cats worked their way back from a deficit to earn a win over the Brownsville Charros to open up a three game series. After finding themselves down 4-2 in the bottom of the eighth the Cats scored six runs to push them to a 8-4 lead.

After Wes Alsup walked two men in the eighth inning, Brownsville Charros manager Ozzie Conseco was ejected after arguing the calls of home plate umpire Darin Heare. After taking his time to leave the stadium and rallying the crowd, Cats manager Mike Marshall protested the game.

Alsup followed this by throwing two wild pitches in a row and a balk to make the score 4-3. The inning continued with another walk, a single, RBI hit by pitch, giving the Cats a 8-4 lead going into the ninth.

10 batters came to the plate in the eighth with the Cats scoring six runs on two hits.

Nick Thorton started the game for the Cats going 6.1 innings, walking four and striking out four. He was removed in the top of the sixth in the middle facing a batter, no word on if the removal was injury related.

Julio Franco extended his hitting streak to five games going 2-for-5 on the night with two singles. He has at least a hit in every game of the season.

The Cats are back in action Sunday the 25th at 5:05 p.m. at LaGrave Field. Following the game will be Me & My Monkey, a popular Beatles' tribute band. The concert is presented by Grease Monkey, a great sponsor of the Fort Worth Cats. Tickets can be purchased online at FWCats.com or by phone at (817) 332-CATS.
