Florence Y'alls News Release
FLORENCE, KY - The Florence Y'alls (38-30) swept the Slammers and won the season-series on a three-run walk-off homer from Hank Zeisler.
Evan Webster toed the rubber for Florence, entering with the league lead in wins with nine on the season. Joliet struck first with a run in the opening frame and pushed across two more in the third. Webster had a few too many long at-bats and was chased after 4.1 innings, allowing three runs on six hits with seven punchouts.
The offense answered Joliet in the first when Tyler Shaneyfelt and Brett Blomquist singled to lead off the inning and Zade Richardson brought home Shaneyfelt with a sacrifice fly.
The Y'alls added four more runs in the second to take a 5-1 lead. Kyle Harbison started the scoring with a two-run double to plate Milo Rushford and Dillon Baker. A couple batters later, Blomquist ripped a two-run single to score Harbison and Shaneyfelt, ending the night for the Joliet starting pitcher.
After two Joliet runs in the top of the fourth, Florence once again clapped right back with an RBI double from Zeisler to make it a 6-3 lead.
Max Whitesell relieved Webster in the fifth and ended the inning cleanly, but started the sixth and walked one batter before being removed. Jake Lynch came on and couldn't get an out, allowing an RBI single and loading the bases for Logan Jones. The righty walked in a run and delivered a wild pitch to tie the game at 6-6, but stranded two runners in scoring position.
A Zeisler sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth immediately returned the lead to Florence. The Y'alls added insurance in the seventh, starting with a solo shot from Milo Rushford and followed by an RBI single from Blomquist to take a 10-6 lead.
Will Carsten surrendered three runs in the top of the eighth to once again make this a one-run game. Trying to preserve a 10-9 win, Aidan McEvoy came on in the ninth. A Garrett Broussard error at third brought home the tying run, but McEvoy was able to strand the go-ahead run at third.
In the bottom of the ninth, Baker singled to lead off the inning, and Jackson Tucker added a one-out base knock. With two away, the Captain, Zeisler, came through for Florence and blasted a three-run walkoff homer to win 13-10.
Florence continues the seven-game homestand when the Gateway Grizzlies come to town for Bluey Night on Friday. RHP Nathan Lawson takes the hill for the Y'alls and opposes Gateway's RHP Ty Good. First pitch is set for 7:03 PM.
