Published on July 22, 2008 under American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release

Indianapolis, IN. The American Basketball Association (ABA) today announced that the Gallup Talons are returning to the ABA after a two year hiatus - "and we couldn't be more pleased," stated ABA CEO Joe Newman. Joe Kolb and his organization are outstanding; the city has showed great support before. We're looking for an terrific season.

"We are very excited about the strides the league has made recently and look forward to a successful season," said Kolb. "Our organization learned valuable lessons during its first season playing in the ABA and has revamped the Talons organization. We're looking forward to providing quality entertainment for our northwestern New Mexico community."

"We established product identification beyond our expectations," added Kolb. "Nobody gets rich in an adventure like this; it needs to be all about and for the community."

He said over the past two years residents, business owners and community officials have expressed their excitement in having the team return.

Leading the Talons as Head Coach this season will be 43-year old Kelvin Scarborough. Scarborough was a star player for the University of New Mexico between 1983-1987 where he continues to hold the school record for steals as well as remaining the WAC All-Time leader in the same category. Since leaving UNM Scarborough has established an incredible reputation for developing basketball talent in the region. He currently serves as head coach for the New Mexico All-Stars and Menaul H.S. in Albuquerque, NM.

"I want to help players reach their goals of continuing basketball after college," said the Washington, DC native. "The Gallup team not only means a lot to the ABA but to the state of New Mexico."

Scarborough said he is excited about the foundation the Talons already have established in Gallup, which is one of the top basketball cities in New Mexico. "We're looking for guys just coming out of college who are hungry and want to pursue basketball on the next level," he said.

Scarborough added that he sees the ABA as an opportunity for players to advance to lucrative overseas contracts." For more information, email Joe Kolb at ghsat@hotmail.com or call 5054884117 or visit www.galluptalons.com or www.abalive.com.
