Akron Racers News Release
AKRON, OH - The Akron Racers have an important question for fastpitch fans across America, but more specifically, sports fans in Northeast Ohio to address in 2016. As the Racers prepare to embark on their unprecedented 15th Season of Play as the oldest existing women's professional softball team, this storied franchise is asking, in typical twitter fashion, #RUWatching?
#RUWatching? As pitcher, Sarah Pauly adds to her All-Time NPF record-breaking 100 victories?
#RUWatching? As third baseman and three-time All-NPF performer, Kelley Montalvo matches Lisa Norris' seven years as the longest tenured Racers in franchise history?
#RUWatching? As centerfielder Taylor Schlopy seeks to defend her NPF home run crown?
#RUWatching? As the Racers reveal the 30 players that have had the greatest IMPACT on the growth and sustainability of the NPF's oldest team?
#RUWatching? As the Racers pursue their second NPF Cowles Cup championship?
#RUWatching? In the seats at Firestone Stadium or following online?
#RUWatching? When the Racers appear live on national television this summer?
Since 1999, the Racers have brought an exciting and fan-friendly brand of entertainment to Firestone Stadium. At the corner of S. Main Street and W. Wilbeth Road, Firestone Stadium's historic past is unveiled nightly as the Racers continue to translate the past into a future destination for the game.
Fans can enjoy all the excitement of the professional sport's environment in an intimate setting and comfortable atmosphere among families, fans and neighbors from just down the street. Access to these athletes through post-game autograph signings is unprecedented more than any other league would dream of offering on a nightly basis.
From veterans like Schlopy, Montalvo and Pauly leading the team; to young players hungry to join the professional ranks; to an NPF rookie class whose names have yet to be announced with the draft still more than a month away. Newcomer and current USA National Team member, Sam Fischer, sheds the red, white and blue to join the red and black for a substantial set of games in 2016.
The Racers are sure to offer an exciting season with many memorable moments with the highlight of the summer coming on July 15-17 when they officially welcome back players, coaches, umpires and fans to celebrate their 15 Seasons of Play.
The only question left is #RUWatching when they do?
