Texas wins exhibition

Texas Tycoons News Release


Dallas, Texas - The Texas Tycoons defeated the Dallas Diesel in exhibition play Thursday at Mountain View College 107-89. The Tycoons look to be quick, long, athletic, and high flying as the 107 points scored in this exhibition was done in only 8 minute quarters. Head Coach Chris Terrell has an all-star cast this season and the Tycoons are looking to continue to be a powerhouse in the ABA this season. The list of achievements from this group of players is exceptional. Currently in camp with the Tycoons include:

The Tycoons will be looking to field a 10 man active roster and will be making their final cuts shortly. When asked about the team Coach Terrell was quoted as saying "I couldn't be happier with the collection of exceptional people within this organization. From the owner, to the front office, management, our game day staff, coaching staff, and players; we have been very blessed to have some of the best people possible at every position. The product on the court will be an excellent representation of all the people within the organization that make things possible."

On the court the Tycoons have some very accomplished players at each position. Brandon Lee was an All-American at Tarleton St., Benny West an All-American and NCAA Player of the Year at Howard Payne, Glendon Alexander was All-American at Oklahoma State along with a former Junior Team USA member, former Mr. Basketball in the State of Texas and top 5 scorer all-time in the Big 12 Tournament. Josh Gonner took South Carolina to to the SEC quarterfinals and won a NIT championship at the S.Carolina. Jerome Rogers was a consistent double figure scorer at UNT; and those are only at the guard spots. At forward Stan Blackmon was a 1st team All-Sun Belt Conference and 1st team All-Region at the University of Arkansas-Little Rock. Former Sacramento Kings forward Jean Paul Afif at 6'9 plays 4 and 5 with professional experience in 1st division Italy to his credit after prepping at Loyala Marymount University. Jonathan Hopkins is a 6'10 forward just recently returned from a 20/10 season in South America. David Johnson led the nation in blocked shots at Texas Wesleyan University and at Weatherford College in successive seasons. Chris Williams, Bryce May, and Donny Calton are all very long and athletic players that bring depth and balance to a very talented team.

When asked about their prospects for the season, Coach Terrell stated "We know we are talented, but we also know that we need to work hard and stay injury free. All of the players currently in camp with the Tycoons have roots to the Dallas/Fort Worth area and we look forward to giving back to the community that has supported us so strongly over the years. Those things coupled with heart and determination and we will look forward to competing for the ABA championship this season."
