Texas Tycoons News Release
Dallas, TX - The Texas Tycoons (24-5) were awaiting the outcome of the Beijing-Buffalo contest played out Thursday night in Azusa, California to determine who their opponent would be in the final four. Beijing who fell behind by 28 points early in the first half, fought back to defeat Buffalo 121-109 and will fly to Dallas, Texas to take on the Texas Tycoons Saturday night at Dallas's Mountain View College. Texas who earlier in the week defeated the Quad City Riverhawks to advance to the ABA final four are looking to advance to the finals with a win over the visiting Aoshen Olympians.
Former NBA players Vinson Fred (6'4''-G-71, college: Georgia Tech) and Toby Bailey (6'5''-G/F-75, college: UCLA ) star for Beijing along with 7 former Chinese National team players and Oklahoma State big man Miller Jason (6'9''-F-80, college: Oklahoma St. ). Beijing has shooters at every position and will look to spread the court and get the ball inside to Miller and to Vinson and Bailey coming off screens. Beijing came back on Buffalo by hitting on a number of shots from long distance and the Tycoons will need to contest those shooters, defend the blocks, and rebound against this very talented team.
The Texas Tycoons are led by ABA all-star Donnie Beacham (6'5''-F-81, agency: ND Corner Sports, college: Texas Arlington ). Beacham is an impossible match up with the ability at 6'5 to put the ball on the floor like a point guard and finish above the rim like a big man along with a smooth and effortless jumper from the perimeter. To go with Beacham, Texas is loaded at 5 positions. In the backcourt Jerome Rogers (5'10''-G-81, college: N.Texas) and Mario Kinsey (6'2''-G-82, college: Texas Coll. ) provide the firepower at the 1 with a combination of quickness, athleticism, and lights out shooting from the perimeter. Brandon Lee (6'3''-G, agency: ProSportsCareers, college: Tarleton St.) and Josh Gonner (6'2''-G-82, college: S.Carolina ) are both marksmen shooters from the perimeter and can read screens, come off, and fire as quick as anyone in the league. Benny West (6'3''-G-82, agency: ProSportsCareers, college: Howard Payne) and Tyrone Rayson (6'6''-F-80, college: East Central ) can knock down perimeter shots and slash to the bucket with consistency and Chris Williams (6'8''-F-81, college: Tarleton St.), Randall Williams (6'8''-C-82, college: Tarleton St.), and Oneal Mims (6'10''-F-82, college: Angelo St. ) run and finish with any big men in the league. Texas takes their 132 points per game scoring average into the contest and with the number of weapons they have and the way they share the ball, you can't key in on one guy.
