Texas Outlaws Shaping up in Pre-Season for Second PASL Year

October 20, 2009 - Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL)
Texas Outlaws News Release

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX - The Texas Outlaws opened pre-season training on the last Monday of September, and since then the team has been steadily preparing for the start of their 2009-10 campaign in the Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL).

During the off-season, team management inked a deal with the Texas Brahmas, champions of the Central Hockey League (CHL), to share NYTEX Sports Centre. They melted down one of two sheets of ice and installed turf to create TCG Arena. Now the Outlaws are inviting fans to see their new home and enjoy an intra-squad scrimmage on Saturday, 24 October, and a pre-season exhibition game against Tyler Threat FC, on the following Sunday, 1 November. The Outlaws have also added a pre-season game against the DFW Tornados on Saturday, 31 October at Arena Athletics. A fortnight later, fans can ring in the new season by welcoming the storied San Diego Sockers to their first PASL season for Texas's home opener on Sunday, 15 November.

Texas is looking to build on their successes late last season. Second-year Head Coach Kevin Leonard says, "We've got a pretty solid core of returning players, plus we're adding some experience - remember, we were the youngest team in the league last year." Several key players returned to training camp this year: John Andrews, the squad's stalwart captain; former Sidekick Chuck Salas; Kellan Zindel, SMU standout and last year's top scorer; Midfielders Anthony Jama and Jamie Harrigan; Defenders Jared Lee and Jon Waters; and Goalkeeper Adam Jochelson, who led the league in saves per game last season. Also returning are Anthony Lewis, John Martinez, Adi Puscas, and David Warner. Training camp has also seen the appearance of many experienced and former professional players. Every player is working hard to fill the final roster of 20.

This year the Outlaws will play in the PASL's Western Division and will expect to further a rivalry with the Denver Dynamite, whom they play 4 times through the season. They'll make a trip to the West Coast to visit the Sockers and last year's PASL Champion California Cougars. In addition the Outlaws will repeat their trek to snowy Canada to face Edmonton and Calgary. Last year's divisional adversary St. Louis Illusion remains in the Eastern Division, but the Outlaws will still meet them twice to keep the fire burning.

A number of sponsors are onboard for the season and will be announced shortly. "We're pleased with the level of interest already," says General Manager Marco Juarez. "Our sponsors have recognized that we provide access to a wide potential fan base across the Metroplex, and we attract soccer fans looking for a fun evening. We are eagerly anticipating the start of the new season and expect more sponsors to want to take advantage of this opportunity." Tickets to pre-season and regular season games, as well as full season packages, are available now. Visit www.txoutlaws.com or call (817) 846-8843 to get yours. You won't want to miss a minute.
