Texas Legends News Release

FRISCO, TX - The roster for the inaugural Texas Legends season, which tips off in November, will begin to take shape by way of an Expansion Draft, it was announced today.

The 14-player expansion draft pool is made up of solely of the returning players from the 2009-10 Los Angeles D-Fenders, which will be on hiatus for the 2010-11 season. Included in the pool are guard Dar Tucker and center Michael Fey, two of the 30 players invited to the 2010 NBA D-League Elite Mini-Camp, held in June in Chantilly, VA.

Tucker has impressed fans in Dallas once before, winning the 2010 NBA D-League Dream Factory Slam Dunk Contest by leaping over 6-11 Brian Butch for his winning duck.

Legends coach Nancy Lieberman and owner Donnie Nelson both witnessed Tucker's impressive show.

"This is another step towards our inaugural season," Legends Owner Donnie Nelson commented. "The D-Fenders had a number of very talented players who have a real chance to develop into NBA athletes. The opportunity to draft their rights is the first step towards forming our team."

Fey, 7-0, averaged 12.8 points and 6.4 rebounds per game last season for the L.A. D-Fenders, and also made half of his three-point attempts.

Other players that stand out in the pool are guard Joe Crawford and forward Diamon Simpson. Crawford earned a GATORADE Call-Up to the New York Knicks in March 2009 and Simpson started 30 games last season for the D-Fenders, averaging 15.5 points and 9.6 rebounds per game.

Also in the expansion draft pool is forward Ryan Forehan-Kelly, a two-year veteran of the NBA D-League, and 7-foot center Gabriel Hughes. Forehan-Kelly led the D-Fenders with 14.7 points per game last season, hitting 82 3-pointers in only 50 games.

Guards Lawrence McKenzie, Frank Robinson, Horace Wormely and James Wright and forwards Keith Clark, James Peters, Ray Reese and Rodney Webb fill out the preliminary pool.

In addition to these initial 14 players available in the expansion draft, the Legends can seek out local talent. The Legends are hosting open tryouts on September 10-11 (contact Assistant Coach Scott Flemming at sflemming@TexLegends.com ).

Once the Legends select their desired players, the players must sign with the D-League in order to truly be Legends.

The Texas Legends have sold more than 20,000 tickets for their historic inaugural season. To reserve your tickets today, call 1-214-469-0822 or email info@TexLegends.com .
