Corpus Christi scored their first two runs on a two-RBI triple by Osvaldo Fernando in the fourth inning. It was his first triple and seventh extra-base hit of the season. Hunter Pence added a solo home run in the fifth to give the Hooks their final 3-0 margin.

[August 6, 2006 at Corpus Christi] The Hooks got another solid pitching performance, this time from Troy Patton, in their 6-3 win over Midland to take a 2-0 series lead. Patton limited Midland to two runs over six innings, striking out four. Paul Estrada recorded his second save in as many games with a scoreless ninth. Mark Saccomanno drove in a pair of runs on a double, part of the decisive three-run fifth inning to give the Hooks a 6-2 lead. Midland would cut the lead to 6-3 on Kevin Melillo's RBI double in the seventh inning, but ultimately fell short.

Juan Morillo held Wichita scoreless for seven innings as he limited them to three hits with 10 strikeouts, but got a no decision. Wranglers' starter Zack Greinke allowed just one run on five hits over six innings, striking out six. In addition to the game winner, Sanchez drove in Donnie Murphy in top of the ninth inning with a single to tie the game at 1-1. Alvin Colina scored the lone run for Tulsa on a solo home run in the fifth frame.

[August 6, 2006] The Wranglers jumped on the Drillers early, taking a 5-0 fourth inning lead and an eventual 5-2 win. Ian Stewart went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and two RBI, while Jonathan Herrera went 3-for-5 in the leadoff spot for Tulsa. Wichita's Billy Butler, who rejoined the team after spending two weeks in Cuba with the U.S. National team, went 1-for-3 with a single and a walk. The win for Tulsa snapped an eight-game playoff losing streak, which goes back to 2004. It was also their first win since becoming the Colorado Rockies Double-A affiliate in 2003.

[August 8, 2006 at Wichita] Several players made key contributions on the Wranglers' 7-6 triumph over Tulsa as they won the divisional series 3-1 and moved on to play for the Texas League Championship. The number one overall draft pick from this year's amateur draft, Luke Hochevar, held Tulsa to two runs on two hits while striking out seven in 5 1/3 innings. Hochever, who was making his Double-A debut, kept the Drillers hitless until the sixth inning when they scored two runs. Wichita's Alex Gordon hit a pair of home runs in the win, both solo. Billy Butler also added a longball, a solo shot in the fifth frame. The game ended on some dramatics as Chris Lubanski fielded Jonathan Herrera's groundball single and threw out Jordan Czarniecki at home to end the game in favor of Wichita.
