Waza Flo News Release
(Detroit, MI) This Saturday marked one of the most anticipated soccer matches of the season with the Detroit WAZA FLO beating the Cincinnati Kings 8 - 6. In front of a sold out crowd, WAZA fans were given the chance to watch this fierce rivalry. But an emotional roller coaster of a ride was in store for the home town faithful.
"I think tonight's game was a game of storms," said head-coach Costea Decu. "We put a little pressure on them; they put a little pressure on us. It seemed to go back and forth and back and forth with both teams creating some chances. But we were lucky and finished more than they did.
"Cincinnati had a fabulous effort; they threw an awful lot into the game but our guys fought and fought. There is no quit in our guys and I'm extremely proud of what we did in this game. "
A game that started with few real chances in the first half grew more tense and unpredictable over its span. In the second half, the Kings came out of the locker room with more energy and added three goals for a tie and, at one point, took the lead in the match. But Decu, WAZA's top scorer of the game, cemented the victory in the fourth quarter with two goals spaced about one minute apart.
Added Decu, "It was a great game. We battled down to the last couple of minutes. We stepped it up, we could taste it. And with our hometown crowd behind us, supporting us, we knew we were going to win the game".
The WAZA FLO will be back home Sunday, January 8th to play the Illinois Piasa at the Taylor Sportsplex, 2:35 kick-off.
