JACKSON, TENN. - Staring at an opportunity to draw even with first-place Chattanooga, the Jackson Generals rallied for 5-4 lead against the Tennessee Lookouts in Wednesday's fifth inning. They carried the lead into the ninth inning, but leaky defense and a pitching staff throwing on fumes allowed Tennessee to steal a late 7-5 win at The Ballpark at Jackson. The loss keeps the Generals a game out of first place with 11 games to go in the Southern League's First Half, with the ten-inning loss dropping Jackson's extra-innings record to 1-4.

Right-hander Ryan Atkinson walked two hitters in the first inning, setting the tone for what would be a sub-par evening with regard to efficiency. Atkinson needed 94 pitches to finish five innings for the second start in a row, and he gave up a pair of home runs that built Tennessee's lead up to 4-1 after four innings. Kevin Ginkel worked a three-batter sixth inning, Daniel Gibson faced four men in the seventh, and Brad Goldberg faced three more hitters in the eight, as the Jackson bullpen sliced through the Tennessee order. However, a depleted bullpen from multiple days of extended relief put the Generals in a tight spot, and a mid-game trade that sent away left-hander Gabe Speier narrowed Jackson's options even further. Yoan Lopez was tasked with working the ninth inning, but he allowed a two-out, two-strike RBI double to Tennessee's Vimael Machin that tied the game at five-all. In the inning that followed, Lopez induced a pair of ground balls that could have turned into outs, but the Generals defense made an error each time, and that helped Tennessee score two runs to go up for good.

After a pair of scoreless innings, the Generals' offense got going in the third with doubles from Jose Queliz and Daniel Robertson, as the second man drove in the first to break up the shutout. Jackson's Galli Cribbs started the fifth with a double and scored on a single from Robertson, and Domingo Leyba followed with a three-run blast over the right field wall that pushed the Generals in front. Thereafter, the Jackson side put only two runners on base, making twelve consecutive outs to conclude the game. Robertson's 2-for-5 effort with a pair of RBI ended up being the only multi-hit effort in Wednesday's loss.
