Springfield Sliders News Release
The Springfield Sliders dropped the second game of their three game series against the Terre Haute Rex 11-5 at Bob Warn Field tonight in Terre Haute, IN. Terre Haute picked up where they left off last night from an offensive standpoint, scoring three runs in the very first inning against Sliders' starter Zac Wittmus. After a short delay caused by lightning during the top of the second inning, the Rex then scored single runs in the third and fifth innings to take a 5-0 lead into the sixth. In the sixth inning, the Sliders would get a two run home run from 1B Matt Tellor, his ninth home run of the year, and another run when LF Mike Fitzgerald hit a double, eventually scoring on a Terre Haute error to cut the lead to 5-3. In the bottom of the sixth, Terre Haute answered with two runs, and they then scored two runs in the seventh to bring their lead to 9-3. The Sliders would pull two back in the eighth inning as Fitzgerald scored on a sacrifice fly by 3B Sean Gerber, and C Matt Stevens scored on an error after doubling and stealing third. The Rex scored two runs for the third straight inning in the eighth to finish out the scoring for the night. Terre Haute now leads the season series 4-2. The final game of this three game series is set for tomorrow at 7:05 at Bob Warn Field, and can be heard on the Springfield Sliders' Ustream channel.
