'Tees Edge First-Place Jays

VIERA, Fla. - Three runs - all scored in the sixth inning - were enough to get the Brevard County Manatees and starting pitcher Jed Bradley a win on Thursday night, taking a 3-2 decision from the Dunedin Blue Jays.

Coming off of a seven-game road trip that saw the 'Tees (11-9) go 3-4, the Manatees fell behind early to Dunedin (14-6), as the Blue Jays struck first in the first inning. A leadoff walk followed by back-to-back singles to score a run before an out was recorded. A double play behind Bradley settled him down, and he was able to take care of business the next two innings.

Dunedin's only other run, was an unearned run that came in the fourth. Derrick Chung reached on a fielder's choice that resulted in the second out, then advanced on a wild pitch and scored from second on a throwing error by shortstop Yadiel Rivera.

With Dunedin starting pitcher Jesse Hernandez needing just 48 pitches to plow through the first five innings, John Dishon took the 49th pitch and deposited it over the left field fence for his first home run of the season to make it a 2-1 game.

Two batters later, Greg Hopkins doubled and then Nick Ramirez followed with a walk. Both runners then advanced on a passed ball and reigning FSL Player of the Week Cameron Garfield would bring them both home with a two-run single that signaled the end of the night for Hernandez.

Brevard County threatened with runners on first and second in the seventh and then loaded the bases in the eighth, but didn't score. That would not matter as the bullpen trio of Andre Lamontagne, Kevin Shackelford and Seth Harvey shut the door over the final three innings. Harvey struck out the side in the ninth for his fourth save of the year.

Bradley (2-1, 3.45) finished with four strikeouts and scattered six hits, while walking two in his six innings of work. Of the two runs that Bradley allowed, just one was earned.

The Manatees will attempt to inch closer to Dunedin for first place in the North Division on Friday night at 6:35 p.m., when Drew Gagnon (0-2, 9.72) will oppose Blue Jays righty Aaron Sanchez (1-0, 1.35).
