Louisville Lightning News Release
The Louisville Lightning has a new head coach for the 2010-2011 season, and the man at the helm will be a familiar name to the local soccer community. Ted Nichols has been officially named head coach of the Lightning after a successful inaugural PASL season under Scott Budnick.
Nichols brings 14 years of coaching experience to the position along with an extensive background in the professional sports industry. The Rockford, Illinois native played his collegiate soccer at Aurora University before finishing his playing career at Monmouth University as team captain, also garnering most valuable player accolades. After earning his degree in Sports Administration with a minor in Sports Marketing, Nichols went on to gain experience in Major League Baseball with the Chicago Cubs and Montreal Expos. He then transitioned into industrial sales with McCormick Equipment Company, which brought Ted and his family to Louisville. After becoming owner of the company, Ted continued to use his sales and marketing acumen when he joined Mockingbird Valley Sports Complex with his business partner Wayne Estopinal.
In addition to his business experience, Ted Nichols has served as a coach and goalkeepers' trainer with Mockingbird for 14 years. He has also been a part of the St. Xavier High School coaching staff since 2000. During his tenure at the school, St. Xavier has won the state championship in soccer a remarkable six times. Ted's coaching experience and familiarity with Mockingbird made him a natural fit to take over the Lightning, a club poised for more success in its second season.
"Coach Nichols is a natural fit for the position," said Lightning General Manager David Horne. "Ted has great relationships with the Lightning players and already has the rapport necessary to provide immediate leadership."
"I want to give back to the community through the beautiful game of soccer," Ted stated. "I'm very much looking forward to contributing to the success of the Louisville Lightning," he went on to add. Ted Nichols currently resides in Louisville with his wife Jenny, and their three children: Davis, Libby, and Ryan.
