Team Win Helps Dirt Dawgs Break Slump

LEOMINSTER, Mass. (Thursday, August 1, 2013). The losing streak is finally over for the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs.
Thanks to a sublime pitching performance from Nick Filloramo (Wheaton) and timely hitting, the Dirt Dawgs (16-28) defeated the first place Nashua Silver Knights 6-1.
Filloramo led the way for the Dirt Dawgs, pitching eight full innings; he allowed one run on five hits while striking out four. He moves to 4-3 with the win.
With Wachusett holding a 2-1 lead, Austin Sistrunk (Libscomb) broke the game open in the sixth with a clutch two-out grand slam.
"It was a fastball count, 2-1 I think," said Sistrunk. "He threw a fastball right over the plate and I swung the bat and got lucky."
Sistrunk finished the game 1-for-3 with four RBIs.
Wachusett shortstop Kevin Marciano (WNEC) had a solid night at the dish, going 1-for-4 with 2 RBIs.
Joe Coyne (St. Joesph's) and Tyler Mikrut (Southern Indiana) each added two hits for the Dirt Dawgs.
Andrew Richards (Southern Maine) took the loss for Nashua (29-16).
The Dirt Dawgs return to action Saturday as they travel to Pittsfield to take on the Suns. First pitch is at 7 PM.
