
Team WHL Captains Announced for 2011 Subway Super Series

CALGARY, AB - The Canadian Hockey League in association with the Western Hockey League and the Moose Jaw Warriors and Regina Pats Hockey Clubs today announced the players that will serve as Captains and Assistant Captains for Team WHL who will compete against Team Russia in the 2011 SUBWAYî Super Series. Team WHL will face Team Russia in games five and six of the series played Wednesday, November 16 in Regina, SK, and on Thursday, November 17 in Moose Jaw, SK. The first two games of the series are hosted by the QMJHL with the OHL hosting games three and four.
Vancouver Giants' forward Brendan Gallagher has been named Team WHL captain for game five of the SUBWAYî Super Series in Regina, SK. The 19-year-old from Delta, BC, is playing his fourth year with the Vancouver Giants, was a 5th round selection by the Montreal Canadiens at the 2010 NHL Entry Draft and is representing Team WHL for the second straight season. Colton Sissons (Kelowna Rockets), Joe Morrow (Portland Winterhawks) and Duncan Siemens (Saskatoon Blades) have been named assistant captains for the Team WHL for the game in Regina, SK. Colton Sissons and Duncan Siemens both serve as Captains for the Kelowna Rockets and Saskatoon Blades. This is Sissons, Siemens and Morrow's first appearance with Team WHL at the SUBWAY Super Series.
Moose Jaw Warriors' forward Quinton Howden has been named Team WHL captain for game six of the SUBWAYî Super Series in Moose Jaw, SK. The 19-year-old from Oakbank, MB is playing his fourth season with the Moose Jaw Warriors, was selected in the 1st round - 25th overall by the Florida Panthers at the 2010 NHL Entry Draft and is representing Team WHL for the third straight year. Mark Stone (Brandon Wheat Kings), Dylan McIlrath (Moose Jaw Warriors) and Duncan Siemens (Saskatoon Blades) have been named as assistant captains for Team WHL for the game in Moose Jaw, SK. Stone also wears the captains 'C' for the Wheat Kings while McIlrath is an Assistant Captain with the Warriors, for both this is their first appearance with Team WHL at the SUBWAY Super Series.
The 2011 SUBWAYî Super Series will take place November 7 - 17 and marks the ninth straight year that teams of CHL All-Stars have competed against Team Russia in preparation for the World Junior Hockey Championships. The SUBWAYî Super Series is an integral part of the evaluation process prior to Team Canada's final selection camp in December. This season, Canada will be competing for their 14th straight medal at the 2012 tournament in Calgary and Edmonton, Alberta.
