Rochester Lancers News Release

(Rochester, NY) -- The Major Arena Soccer League today announced this week's Team of the Week. Each week, the MASL selects the top performing players in the league to join this list. From over 400 active players in the league, Tavernese was selected as one of just two forwards to earn a spot.

Tavernese, who finished the year with his best season ever, exploded for four goals and two assists against a stingy Baltimore defense on Sunday. It was the Lancers regular season finale, thrilling over 10,000 fans to the final whistle in a 25-23 loss. Tavernese led the night in scoring as the Lancers scored more points than any other team that faced top seeded Baltimore all year.

Originally from Long Island, Tavernese has made his way into the league's top 20 in scoring. He finished the regular season with 26 goals, 15 assists, and 41 total points. As the team looks to capture their first playoff win tomorrow night against Syracuse, Tavernese hopes to add to his five goals and one assist against the Silver Knights this season. He was also named the team's Offensive Player of the Year.

Mauricio Salles / Yaikel Perez Earn Team of the Week Honorable Mention

Lancers captain and Team MVP Mauricio Salles tallied two more goals and three assists against Baltimore on Sunday. He finished the season with 41 goals, 16 assists, and 57 total points, cracking the league's top five in goals scored and total points. Lancers first year player, Yaikel Perez, finished fourth in team scoring after netting a hat trick against Baltimore. In the last four games, he's scored eight goals, including two hat tricks.

The Lancers head into the playoffs hosting rival Syracuse this Thursday, March 5 at 7pm at the Blue Cross Arena. The first 1,000 fans will receive Lancers sack packs, courtesy of Mr. Glass. Tickets are two for one. For more information, or to purchase tickets, visit www.rlancers.com.
