Tavares named Player of the Week for second time this season

Buffalo, N.Y. (February 19, 2004) -- The National Lacrosse League announced today that John Tavares has been named Overall Player of the Week for Week 9. Tavares scored two goals and four assists for six points in a 13-9 win over Toronto on February 13th and three goals, three assists for six points in a 13-11 win over Anaheim on February 14th. Tavares set a benchmark against the Storm, becoming just the second player in NLL history to score 900 career points, while Gary Gait of the Colorado Mammoth was the first. Last week, Tavares was named captain for the Eastern Division All-Stars and Gait for the West.

Fans can watch Tavares and five other Bandits named to the Eastern Division All-Stars compete against the West at the 2004 NLL All-Star Game on Sunday, February 22, at 4:00 PM broadcast live on Empire Sports. Empire can be seen on DirecTV: Ch. 626 and Dish Network: Ch. 432.
