Lancaster JetHawks News Release
LANCASTER, Calif. - Nick Tanielu hit his second home run of the season for the JetHawks, but the Bakersfield Blaze rallied late for a pair of four-run innings to even the series with a 9-5 victory on Wednesday night at The Hangar.
Tanielu's homer, which went to the opposite field in right, highlighted a two-run first inning for the JetHawks (6-11). The first run came after Drew Ferguson doubled and scored all the way from second base on Ramon Laureano's sacrifice-fly to right field.
Bakersfield (8-11) cut the lead in half in the fifth inning on Drew Jackson's RBI double. The JetHawks got the run right back in the bottom of the frame when Jason Martin delivered with a two-out RBI single.
The Blaze put up a pair of four-run innings in the eighth and ninth. Each frame featured a three-run homer. In the eighth, Austin Cousino went deep for the second time in as many nights. Jay Baum hit an inside-the-park home run in the ninth.
Lancaster got back within a run in the bottom of the eighth, taking advantage of a Bakersfield error to make it 5-4.
Yefry Del Rosario (0-1) took the loss for the JetHawks and was charged with eight runs in one inning of work. Dean Deetz started and pitched well, giving up just three hits and one run in five innings. Angel Heredia tossed a pair of scoreless innings in relief, and Eric Peterson struck out two in his one inning out of the bullpen.
Kyle Schepel (2-0) picked up the win for Bakersfield. The right-hander struck out three in two scoreless innings out of the Blaze bullpen.
The JetHawks and Blaze conclude their three-game series on Thursday night at The Hangar with the rubber match. Rogelio Armenteros (0-0) will start for Lancaster in his California League debut against Andrew Moore (1-1). First pitch is at 6:35 p.m.
