Princeton WhistlePigs News Release
The Tampa Bay Rays will continue to supply an Appalachian League team in Princeton, WV at least through the end of the 2010 season as part of a signed renewal contract that has been received by Princeton Baseball Association, Inc., the corporate operator of professional baseball in Princeton. The Princeton Rays also then proceeded to unveil their 2009 schedule to the public. "We are certainly excited to continue our long relationship with Tampa Bay. My favorite memory in Princeton this past season was the large enthusiastic crowd we had even at our last home game. Then to follow that with the Rays going to the World Series, it certainly gives us some great building blocks to already start getting excited about 2009," commented Princeton Rays' General Manager Jim Holland while making the announcement.
Princeton has been an affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays since September 27, 1996 and this coming summer will mark Princeton's 13th consecutive season as a Rays' minor league farm team. The town has hosted professional minor league baseball for the past 21 years and has seen 48 former Princeton players go on to play regular season major league baseball. Two of the stars of Tampa Bay's 2008 World Series roster, outfielders Carl Crawford and Rocco Baldelli, each started their professional careers at Princeton in 1999 and 2000 respectively.
Also, the P-Rays have announced their 2009 schedule, which will begin under the lights at home at H.P. Hunnicutt Field on Tuesday, June 23, 2009 versus the Burlington Royals.
Printed pocket schedules will be available for fans this coming spring but for those who plan their summer around P-Rays' baseball, the 2009 schedule is now available as follows (home game times to be announced at a later date):
