Talons Announce 2003 Schedule

Tulsa, OK- The arenafootball2 League office has announced the schedule for the upcoming 2003 season. The Tulsa Talons will get the chance to defend their 2002 division crown, as they will once again play in the Central Division of the National Conference. Other teams making up the Central Division include the Arkansas Twisters, the Bossier City Battle Wings, and the Memphis Xplorers.

The Talons will begin the season with a tough road test as they travel to Peoria to take on the defending ArenaCup champions, the Peoria Pirates on Friday March 28th in the league's first game of the season. They will then get a week off before their home opener on April 12th against the Wichita Stealth. For the second consecutive year, each Talons home game will be played on Saturday nights at 7:30.

"It's a great opportunity for our football team to go on the road and play the defending ArenaCup champions our first game," said head coach Skip Foster. "It's going to be a great way to start the year and I'm sure that Coach (Bruce) Cowdry (Peoria's head coach) is going to have a quality team once again."

The Talons schedule features home and home series' with the Stealth, the Xplorers, the San Diego Riptide, the Battle Wings, the Twisters, the Pirates, and the Bakersfield Blitz. They will also host the Hawaiian Islanders and hit the road for a game against the Louisville Fire to round out their schedule. Ten of the Talons' 16 games will be played against teams that qualified for the ArenaCup playoffs following the 2002 season.

"I'm extremely excited about our schedule," said Foster. "We've got a great mix of games that will really challenge our football team. I think that we've got a great slate of home games and it is going to be another exciting season for Talons fans."

The Talons regular season record of 14-2 last season was the team's best ever and earned them the Number 1 seed and home field advantage in the playoffs. They beat the Arkansas Twisters 34-32 in the first round, but were defeated 53-34 by the Birmingham Steeldogs the following week in the second round.
