
Ta'amu, Owens and Gates Named OurSports Central XFL Players of the Week

St. Louis BattleHawks quarterback Jordan Ta'amu, New York Guardians defensive end Jarrell Owens and Houston Roughnecks linebacker DeMarquis Gates were named the OurSports Central XFL Offensive Player, Defensive Player and Unsung Hero of the Week, respectively, for week four of the XFL season.
Ta'amu completed 20 of 27 passes (74%) for 264 yards one touchdown in the BattleHawks' 23-16 victory over the Seattle Dragons. A duel threat, Ta'amu also added 63 rushing yards on 16 carries.
In his senior season at Ole Miss in 2018, Ta'amu, 22, threw for 3,918 yards with 18 touchdown passes. He also ran for 342 yards and six touchdowns that season. He joined the BattleHawks as a Tier 1 Quarterback Allocation.
Ta'amu's 27-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter to De'Mornay Pierson-El was the first score of the game for the BattleHawks:
Jarrell Owens contributed three combined tackles, two quarterback sacks, two tackles for loss, four quarterback hits, one blocked field goal and one special teams tackle in the Guardians' 17-14 victory over the Los Angeles Wildcats.
Owens, 25, played college football at Oklahoma State where he had 72 total tackles and 12.5 sacks from 2015 through 2018. He was selected by the Guardians in the seventh round of the of the XFL Defensive Front Seven Draft.
Owens blocked 48-yard field goal from Los Angeles Wildcats kicker Nick Novak in the third quarter, helped the Guardians hold on to a three point victory:
DeMarquis Gates showed incredible concentration while grabbing the game-winning interception off a pass that was bobbled by Dallas Renegades wide receiver Flynn Nagle, earning him Unsung Hero for the second week in a row.
Gates, 23, played college football at Ole Miss where he contributed 282 total tackles and six sacks in his four seasons. He played for the Alliance of American Football's Memphis Express last year before being taken in the eighth round by the Roughnecks in the XFL Defensive Front Seven Draft.
His interception late in the four quarter helped improve the Houston Roughnecks to a perfect 4-0.
