T-Yanks Split Twin-Bill with Walk-Off Win

TAMPA, Fla. - After dropping the opening game, 7-4, the Tampa Yankees (15-8) celebrated their first walk-off win of the season, 3-2 in 10 innings, to split the double-header with the Brevard County Manatees (5-18) on Saturday night at George M. Steinbrenner Field.

LHP Ian Clarkin (2-2) got the start in the opener and took the loss, allowing a season-high five earned runs on 10 hits in three and two-third innings. Clarkin walked one and struck out a pair.

Brevard County tallied three runs in the third. Brandon Diaz hit an RBI double and later scored on a double-play ground ball hit by Angel Ortega. Clint Coulter followed with his first home run of the season.

The Manatees loaded the bases in the fourth and a run scored on a wild pitch. Ortega added an RBI single, giving Brevard County a 5-0 lead.

Tampa cut the deficit to one with a four-run fifth. Michael O'Neill and Vicente Conde each singled off LHP Kodi Medeiros. One out later, O'Neill scored as Jorge Mateo reached on a fielding error. Both Conde and Mateo crossed the plate on a double by Billy Fleming. Miguel Andujar then singled to left, scoring Fleming.

The 'Tees quickly added two more runs off RHP Jordan Foley in the sixth. Diaz walked, Johnny Davis singled and both scored on a base hit by George Iskenderian.

Medeiros (W, 2-3) allowed four runs (one earned) on six hits in five innings. The southpaw walked one and struck out three.

RHP Jon Olkzak closed out the win for Brevard County, tossing two scoreless innings. Olkzak allowed one hit and struck out three in his first save of the season.

RHP Chance Adams made the start for Tampa in the nightcap and struck out the first four batters he faced. Adams allowed two earned runs on two hits and five walks, tying a season-high with seven strikeouts in four and a third innings.

The Manatees struck first with a run in the second when Dustin DeMuth walked and scored on a base hit by Gregory McCall. Brevard County added its second run in the third when Davis walked and crossed the plate on a double-play ground out by Coulter.

The Yankees tied the game in the fifth against RHP Junior Rincon. Austin Aune doubled and advanced to third on a base hit by Zack Zehner. A throwing error on a pick-off attempt by McCall allowed Aune to score. After a walk by Francisco Diaz, O'Neill advanced the runners with a sacrifice bunt. Zehner scored on a groundout by Mateo.

The game remained tied into the 10th. O'Neill hit a leadoff single off LHP Zach Hirsch (0-4). A wild pitch pushed O'Neill into scoring position and Mateo ended the game with an RBI double to right-center.

RHP Philip Walby tossed two and two-third scoreless relief innings for Tampa, allowing a walk and no hits while striking out one. LHP James Reeves (W, 1-0) tallied a career-high seven strikeouts in three scoreless innings, walking two and yielding one hit in relief.

Mateo (2-for-4, 2B, BB, 2 RBI in game two) leads the Yankees with 17 RBI. Zehner combined both games to go 3-for-6 with a walk and a run scored. O'Neill (2-for-5, BB, 2 R) scored a run in each game. Conde (2-for-3, R in game one) and Aune (2-for-4, 2B, R in game two) recorded multi-hit games.

The series wraps up on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. LHP Josh Rogers (0-0, -.-- ERA) is scheduled to make his Tampa Yankees debut. RHP Eric Hanhold (0-3, 3.00 ERA) is slated to start for Brevard County.
