T-Bones Topple JackHammers 6-4

JOLIET, IL - Three late runs helped the Kansas City T-Bones (48-35) to a 6-4 victory Friday night over the Joliet JackHammers (42-42) at Silver Cross Field. The JackHammers dropped back to .500 and are now 8-7 this season against Kansas City.

The T-Bones pushed across two runs in the eighth to break a 3-3 game, taking the lead on a single by Jimmy Mojica. Brian Joynt led off with a walk and moved up to third on groundouts by Ryan Fox and Keith Hernandez. Keanon Simon followed up the Mojica single with a base hit of his own, driving home Mojica who stole second during the at-bat.

The JackHammers cut the lead to 5-4 on a Jon Nelson solo home run in the eighth, but went down in order in the ninth against their former teammate, Drew Shetrone.

Steven Stewart (5-3) picked up the victory, allowing only the Nelson home run in two innings. Reid Santos went the first six and earned a no-decision, surrendering three runs on nine hits with four strikeouts.

Kansas City scored the game's first two runs in the second off Paul Fagan. Hernandez launched a solo home run with two outs and the combination of Mojica and Simon combined for the second run. Mojica singled and scored on a Simon triple down the right field line for a 2-0 advantage.

Fagan worked the first six for Joliet, allowing three runs on seven hits with three strikeouts and four walks.

Joliet tied the game with two in the bottom of the second on RBI singles by Ryan Wehrle and Roberto Mena after Nelson and Freddie Thon started the inning with a single and double respectively.

The JackHammers took their only lead in the fifth at 3-2 on a Brad Correll single, scoring Kevin Rios from second who doubled to start the inning.

William Jackel (5-3) took the loss, allowing two runs on one hit in 1.2 innings.

Five different JackHammers had at least two hits with Correll, Nelson, Wehrle and Mena driving in the four runs.

Joliet will turn to Devin Anderson (4-4) in game three of the four game series tomorrow night. Kansas City will counter with Kevin Light (3-1). Game time is set for 7:10 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. pre-game show on 1340 WJOL.
