
T-Birds Assign Downing, Beauchemin to Manchester (ECHL)

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.-Â The Springfield Thunderbirds announced today that they have assigned defenseman Mike Downing to the Manchester Monarchs of the ECHL. The team also returned forward Francois Beauchemin to the Monarchs in a separate transaction.
Downing, 22, has skated in 26 games for the Thunderbirds this season, recording a goal and four assists, as well as 22 penalty minutes. In 94 career AHL games, the University of Michigan product has three goals and 15 assists to go along with 91 penalty minutes. He was originally a fourth round selection (97th overall) by the Florida Panthers in the 2013 NHL Draft.
Beauchemin, 21, has skated in 16 games with Springfield during the 2017-18 season, scoring two goals and adding one assist, in addition to 14 penalty minutes. Beauchemin scored the shootout game-winner for Springfield in a Dec. 16 win over the Hartford Wolf Pack.
The Thunderbirds next take to the ice on Friday night, Feb. 16 against the Lehigh Valley Phantoms for a 7:05 p.m. ET start at the MassMutual Center. That game begins a stretch of three games in three days, as Springfield will host the Providence Bruins at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday before paying a visit to the Bruins on Sunday at 3:05 p.m. at the Dunkin' Donuts Center.
