Syracuse Silver Knights Sign Ukrainian Powerhouse Andriy Budnyy

Syracuse, NY--Syracuse Silver Knights announce the signing of Ukrainian powerhouse forward Andriy Budnyy to its 2011-2012 roster, pending league approval. Andriy Budnyy (Chernivtsi, Ukraine) began his career playing in the USL Premier Developmental League (PDL) in 2004-2005 with the Cascade Surge.
His professional debut was made with the USL Charlotte Eagles in June of 2006. Since his career was launched, Budnyy has played on a total of five professional teams and was a top scorer for Ukraine's FC Obolon Kyiv's first division, scoring 28 goals in two years. Prior to the recent signing with the Knights, Budnyy had a successful season with Wilmington. He joined the USL Pro Club Wilmington Hammerheads in February 2011 and was named to the USL Pro Team of the Week with in August of 2011. With the hammerheads, Budnyy played in a total of 20 games, had 22 points, 8 goals and 6 assists.
"I'm looking forward to the indoor season because the game is faster and more dynamic," said Andriy Budnyy, "I have heard a lot of good things about the Syracuse area and am looking forward to try something new."
The Knights are excited to add this dynamic threat to their roster.
"Andriy is a big, strong technical player and at every level he has played at he has always scored goals. That is exactly what we will be looking for him to do in Syracuse," said Silver Knights Head Coach Tommy Tanner.
Fans can watch Andriy Budnyy take the field on Friday, Nov. 4th at the Oncenter War Memorial Arena as the Syracuse Silver Knights kick off their MISL season against the Rochester Lancers. The home opener will be played at 7:30pm.
The Silver Knights will play 24 games this season, 12 at home, 12 on the road and will compete against teams from Milwaukee, Missouri, Baltimore, Rochester, Wichita, Norfolk and Chicago.
