Syracuse Mets News Release

The Syracuse Chiefs are pleased to announce the team's 2016 coaching staff. Four of the Chiefs' five staff members from 2015, including manager Billy Gardner, Jr., will return to Syracuse in 2016. Hitting coachBrian Daubach, formerly the manager of the Double-A Harrisburg Senators, is the lone new addition to the group.

"We've been blessed with one of the best staffs in minor league baseball", said Chiefs general manager Jason Smorol. "On a day-to-day basis, Billy and his staff are great for the players, front office and fans to deal with, and we're thrilled to have this group back on board in 2016."

Gardner returns for his third year at the helm of the Chiefs, having compiled a record of 147-140 (.512) in his first two seasons with Syracuse. The Chiefs' skipper was named International League Manager of the Year in 2013.

Pitching coach Bob Milacki will return to Syracuse for his second season with the Chiefs. The long-time major-league pitcher was previously in the Phillies' minor league system as a coach for six years.

The new addition to this year's stuff is hitting coach Brian Daubach, who replaces Joe Dillon, now the Miami Marlins' hitting coordinator. The 43-year-old Daubach played for eight seasons in the major leagues, most notably with the Red Sox (five seasons), smashing 20 or more home runs in four consecutive seasons with Boston from 1999 to 2002. He served as Harrisburg's manager for the last two seasons and has managed in the Nationals' system in each of the previous five years.

Athletic trainer Jeff Allred and strength & conditioning coach Brett Henry round out the Syracuse staff. 2016 will mark the fourth year with the Chiefs for both Allred and Henry.

Syracuse's season will begin on Thursday, April 7th at 2:05 vs. the Lehigh Valley IronPigs.
