Halifax, N.S. - The Halifax Hurricanes are pleased to announce the signing on 5'11" Japanese point guard Syota Tsuyama.

In 2014, Tsuyama played for Japan in the Asian U18 National Championship averaging 15 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 assists per game. The following year he was signed by Ryukyu Golden Kings of the Japanese B. League; the highest professional league in Japan.

After three seasons with the Golden Kings, Tsuyama moved to the Fukuoka Rizing where he played 59 games averaging 7 points and 3 assists per game in 2018/19.

"Syota is a rising star as a basketball player" says Hurricanes head coach Mike Leslie. "He has played professional basketball since he was 18, has learned how to become a true professional player, and now wants to take his game to a higher level. As a dedicated and focused athlete, Syota wants to grow his game and compete in our league, using it as a stepping stone to elevate his pro career. He is excited to come to Canada and we are very pleased to welcome to Halifax and the Hurricanes."

The Halifax Hurricanes begin their 2019/20 season in Charlottetown on Saturday, December 28, 2019 and play their home opener Sunday, December 29, 2019 at 2 pm at the Scotiabank Centre. Information on 2019/20 Season Tickets is available at HalifaxHurricanes.ca.
