Colorado Springs, Colo. (Saturday, April 17, 2015) - The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC bested their Rocky Mountain rivals for a second time!

The final score was Switchbacks FC 5, Real Monarchs SLC 2.

What started out as a picture perfect night for a match quickly turned into a winter wonderland.

From the second the first whistle blew, the Switchbacks FC controlled the ball and went on the attack.

At the 11-minute mark, Miguel Gonzalez (#10) found the back of the net off of a pass through the defenders from Luke Vercollone (#4). Sand Creek Stadium erupted into cheers.

But the Real Monarchs SLC were quick to answer with a goal of their own in the 17th minute when Eti Tavares (#7) connected with the back of the net off of an assist from Garrett Losee (#13).

A foul in the box in the 24th minute led to a penalty kick by the Switchbacks FC Luke Vercollone (#4) who slid the ball right past the goalie, sending the teams into halftime with a score of Switchbacks FC 2, Real Monarchs SLC 1.

That's when the snow really started falling, and the second half began with Sand Creek Stadium enveloped in snow and it didn't let up.

Neither did the Switchbacks FC. In the 41st minute, Saeed Robinson (#11) put the ball in the back of the net, thanks to a pass on the right side by Mike Seth (#12).

The game went on a back-and-forth attack from there, until Real Monarchs SLC Max Raohofer (#9) headed the ball into the upper corner off of a cross by Ricardo Velazco (#10) in the 82nd minute.

But then, it was all Switchbacks FC! In 87th minute, Marty Maybin (#9) took a shot down the center, right into the back of the net off of an assist by Luke Vercollone (#4).

A penalty in the box in 89th minute, led to another goal by Luke Vercollone (#4) essentially ending the match.

The Switchbacks FC will now hit the road for the next two weeks, playing the Austin Aztex next Saturday, April 25th, and then the Arizona United SC on Saturday, May 2nd. The next home match for the Switchbacks FC is Saturday, May 9th against The Portland Timbers FC 2 at 7 p.m.
