Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC News Release
Colorado Springs, CO - The Switchbacks FC fell to San Antonio FC tonight after an unfortunate own goal left the score of the contentious match at 0-1.
The Switchbacks came out swinging, with Hadji Barry recording two shots and Michee Ngalina three in the first ten minutes of the match. The team dominated possession in the first half, recording a high of 72% possession and an average of 67% in the first 45 minutes of play. The team recorded nine shots to San Antonio's three, but weren't able to convert any of the chances, resulting in a 0-0 draw going into halftime.
Only three minutes into the second half, San Antonio would get on the board as #6 PC screened Switchbacks goalkeeper Jeff Caldwell, causing him to miss the catch and the ball to bounce off Matt Mahoney for an own goal.
The Switchbacks would still hold dominance over the ball, earning 71% of the possession in the first fifteen minutes of the second half. Several substitutions on both sides occurred as players started taking harder hits, and the Switchbacks would ramp up play, making five shots in just twenty minutes, as well as attempting to convert several free kicks. Unfortunately the ball would not see the back of the net again, and after seven minutes of stoppage time the final score would remain 0-1.
The Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC are on the road again this week as they take on Hartford Athletic on Tuesday. They will be back at home on Friday July 1st, as we kick off our Independence Day Weekend against Sacramento Republic FC.
