WENATCHEE, Wash. - The Kenai River Brown Bears scored a pairof power-play goals Saturday to earn a 2-1 victory over the Wenatchee Wild andavoid a 3-game sweep at the Town Toyota Center.
Kenai River's Matt Seidel broke a scoreless tie 8:58 intothe second period when he scored on a wrist shot from the bottom of the farfaceoff circle. Albin Karlsson earned the lone assist.
The Wild knotted the score, 1-1, with less than nine minutesremaining in regulation on Trace Redmond's(McKinney, Texas) fifth goal of the season. Defenseman Josh Hartley (Coquitlam, British Columbia) set up the goal when hecarried the puck down the right wing and threw a perfect, crisp backhand passto Redmond, who was positioned on the back door for an easy tap in. Evan Schmidbauer (Surrey, BritishColumbia) also assisted.
Unfortunately for the Wild, Redmond's goal was only blemishBrown Bear goalie Marcus Zelzer allowed. In all, Zelzer made 35 saves on 36shots Saturday, capping off an excellent three-game series in which he allowedsix goals on 97 shots.
The Brown Bears scored the eventual game-winner just twominutes after Redmond scored the game-tying goal when Alec Butcher knocked in apass from Seidel during another man-advantage. Karlsson also assisted.
"I was proud of the boys tonight," said Wild head coach Bliss Littler. "We played hard. I washappy with the effort all around ... the pucks are gonna start bouncing our way."
Kenai River scored two power-play goals on six chances.Wenatchee failed to score on its only power play chance, which came in thefirst period.
Nick Schmit(Fargo, N.D.) suffered the loss. He made 19 saves on 21 shots.
The Wild (28-7-4) will host West Division rival Fairbanks ina three-game series this week.
