Louisiana Swashbucklers News Release

LAKE CHARLES LA. - The Louisiana Swashbucklers have started the second half of the 2012 PIFL season with a thrilling yet heartbreaking loss to the Richmond Raiders 50-43 with eight seconds remaining in regulation last Saturday (May 5th). The defeat puts the Bucs in fourth place within the league standings. With a record of 3-4, the team must find a way to rebound with five games left in the season. And it gets no easier as the purple-and-black gang travels east to face the Albany Panthers this coming Saturday (May 12th). Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. eastern standard time at the Albany Civic Center. Locally, the game will be broadcast on Sports Radio KEZM 1310 AM with John Goodman calling the play-by-play. The broadcast is also available on the Internet at www.kezmonline.com. Pre-game will commence at 5:45 p.m. and kickoff at 6 p.m. central standard time.

Albany was defeated for the first time in the season last Sunday (May 6th) by the Columbus Lions 58-56. The Panthers have a first place standing in the league with a 6-1 record. Richmond is in second place at 5-2 and Columbus is in third at 4-3. In addition to this game, the Lions will face the Knoxville Nighthawks and the Raiders will take on the Alabama Hammers on Friday (May 11th).

This will be the third and final meeting in the regular season between the two teams. Albany has already beaten the Swashbucklers twice. In the first meeting at Lake Charles the Panthers in another close game won 58-55 on March 24th and in the rematch one week later Albany came away with another victory 52-38 on their own home field.

The Swashbucklers will have to be tenacious on offense to match the defense of Albany. Against Richmond Bucs quarterback Freddie Harrison was 19 out of 33 for 225 yards and four touchdowns. He had only one interception. The team had 233 total yards of offense and was penalized seven times for 44 yards.

The Panthers offense will once again have veteran quarterback Cecil Lester under center. So far this season he has a record of 101 completions out of 196 attempts with seven interceptions. He has thrown for 1,198 yards and 24 touchdowns.

On Saturday, May 19th, the Swashbucklers will return to the Smuggler's Den for the first time in almost a month to host the Knoxville Nighthawks.
