Corpus Christi Hammerheads News Release
Lake Charles, LA - The Corpus Christi Hammerheads (5-5) finally returned to action Saturday in Lake Charles, LA against the Louisiana Swashbucklers. While the return to action was welcome, the result was not, as the Swashbucklers big second half handed the Hammerheads a 69-47 loss.
The first half of the game was an entertaining see-saw affair that resulted in a 35-33 lead for Corpus Christi after 30 minutes of play.
The second half though would belong to the hometown Swashbucklers. After forcing Louisiana to turn the ball over on downs to open the second half, Corpus Christi would turn the ball over on their next two possessions the first by way of an Interception of the wall returned for a touchdown and then a fumble that set up another score.
Louisiana never looked back from that point forward outscoring Corpus Christi 36-12 over the final 30 minutes of play.
"Overall, I didn't think we played bad", said Hammerheads Head Coach Dustin Almond. "We made a couple mistakes had a fluky play go against and they we're able to take advantage of it". Almond went on to add that he felt that "Louisiana was really struggling to figure out what his team was doing on Offense, but, next week, the team needs to finish".
The Hammerheads won't have to wait long for the rematch as they return to the American Bank Center this Sunday to take on the Louisiana Swashbucklers again. Tickets start at just $10 and are available at all Ticketmaster outlets, Ticketmaster.com, the American Bank Center box office or by calling the Hammerheads at (361)814-PASS (7277). Kickoff is set for 4:05pm.
